Rental Questions

We have the following types of wheelchairs available for rent:

  1. Standard transport wheelchair
  2. Manual wheelchair (self propelled)
  3. Motorized (power) wheelchair, and
  4. Motorized Scooter

Some of these items are available in bariatric sizing with larger seats and sturdy construction. We also have paediatric options, more suited for children and pre-teen sized clients. We all carry other equipment like walkers, rollators, knee walkers, crutches, hospital beds, and lift chairs.

We’re happy to help you figure out which wheelchair is most suitable for your needs. As a rule:

  1. Use a transport chair when the wheelchair user can sit upright using their own strength, and just needs to be moved short distances
  2. Manual chairs are ideal for users that want to have the freedom to move themself, while still being able to be pushed/ assisted by others.

When renting with us, we will need:

– Your name

– Your address

– The height and weight of the person that will be using the equipment

– Your email address & phone number

– The location the equipment should be delivered to

Yes, we take a minimum security deposit of $25 for most items. The deposit is more on higher priced equipment. Hoyer lifts, hospital beds, and other large items carry a minimum $50 security deposit.

This security deposit is always refunded once the equipment is returned in satisfactory condition.

Yes. We follow a comprehensive sanitation regimen for each and every wheelchair we have available.

In addition, our wheelchairs are regularly inspected and mechanically maintained, to ensure that they remain sound and fit for hassle-free use!

After each rental, every piece of equipment is cleaned with a Health Canada certified cleaning agent. Our multipoint cleaning program follows a consistent process for cleaning each piece of equipment, ensuring predictable sanitation. High touch areas, as well as porous surfaces, are targeted for cleaning.

Pricing & Payment Questions

  1. 5 days or less
  2. One week
  3. Two weeks
  4. Three Weeks
  5. One month

Any rental product we carry can be rented for these periods, or more. The longer you rent for, the better pricing you will get on a per day basis.

You can find detailed pricing information here: https://wheelchairrental.ca/rental-equipment-prices/

If you are paying from home, for a delivery, you can pay by credit card (Mastercard, Visa, Amex), or with Visa Debit.

The same options are also available in store via our point of sale system.

Payments all take place through our website, and are facilitated by a Tier 1 payment processor (Stripe) for high level security. We never have access to your payment information, or credit card details.

Yes, ask your Mobility Rental Representative about our Smart Mobility Coverage. It covers you against liability for  accidental damage to your rental equipment. This way, you can rent with confidence, assured that you are covered against the unexpected events of life.

If you no longer need the equipment, let us know. We will end the rental contract, round up the time used to the next rental period, and refund the difference.

For example, on a month rental, if after 2.5 weeks you decide to return the equipment, we’ll round up to the next rental period (which is three weeks), and refund the final week.

Equipment Questions

Our multi-point wheelchair servicing program ensures that all components of every chair are fully functional, before it is delivered to a client.

This includes an inspection of wheelchair brakes, tires, life systems, battery, controls, casters, and more. Rest assured that your wheelchair rental has been properly prepared for its time with you.

In addition to regular maintenance, all our equipment is subject to a pre-trip inspection. This final check ensures that you always receive the right equipment, in top working order.

Yes! We follow a comprehensive sanitation regimen before and after each rental. This includes complete protection against commonly transmitted respiratory illnesses. Safety is one of our highest concerns, and we never compromise it.

All our cleaning products are approved for use as surface disinfectants by Health Canada, while also being eco-friendly and health friendly.

We remain ready to respond to any issues with your rental. If there is an issue, our Service Team will be dispatched to either fix the issue, or provide a fully functional replacement. We guarantee replacement or 100% issue resolution when it comes to our rental equipment.

The average transport or manual wheelchair has a full width of between 19 – 24 inches, depending on the width of the seat. The are typically able to fit through most doors. The typical sedan trunk can easily accommodate a transport wheelchair or manual wheelchair. Our folding power wheelchairs can also fir inside a car trunk or backseat.

Our typical power wheelchair or mobility scooter has a run time of 15 – 20 kilometres on a single charge. This will depend on the weather (extreme temperatures can shorten battery life), frequency of use, your overall weight, as well as the surface the equipment is being used on (inclines consume more power than flat surfaces).

Yes we do. We offer accessories for comfort and safety, including:

  1. Elevating leg rests for injuries,
  2. Various cushions for comfort/pressure relief,
  3. Anti-tippers to ensure the wheelchair does not fall backwards,
  4. Oxygen tank holders,
  5. Cane holders,
  6. Umbrellas,
  7. Ponchos, and more

These are included at an additional charge. Ask your Mobility Rentals Representative for more information.,

Yes; our delivery drivers include a quick complimentary set up and provide usage instructions and demonstrations on how to properly use the equipment.

We typically recommend renting medical equipment in the location you are going to, instead of travelling with the equipment. Most airlines or train stations can support you with mobility equipment while you travel, until you are able to pick up your equipment at your destination.

Travelling can be hard on mobility equipment, that is why we recommend setting up a rental in your destination city or country, instead of travelling with the equipment.

Choosing the right wheelchair size is crucial for comfort, safety, and proper support. Our chairs are primarily sized by seat width and have specific weight capacities. To determine the best fit, we recommend:

  • For Transport Chairs:

    • 17-inch seat: Suitable for individuals generally up to 200-250 lbs. These are designed for attendant propulsion and lighter use.

    • 20-inch seat: Accommodates individuals typically up to 300-350 lbs. This wider seat offers more comfort for larger users.

  • For Manual Wheelchairs:

    • 16-inch seat: Generally for smaller adults, typically up to 200 lbs.

    • 18-inch seat: Our most common size, fitting average-sized adults, usually up to 250-300 lbs.

    • 20-inch seat: Designed for wider individuals, often accommodating up to 300-350 lbs.

  • For Power Chairs:

    • 16-inch seat: Our power chairs in this size typically support users up to 250-300 lbs.

Important Considerations:

  • User’s Widest Point: Measure the widest part of the user’s hips or thighs while seated. Add about 1-2 inches to this measurement for comfort and to allow for clothing or a cushion.

  • Comfort and Fit: A chair that’s too narrow will be uncomfortable and can cause pressure points. A chair that’s too wide can make it difficult to maintain proper posture and propel the chair if applicable.

  • Overall Chair Weight Capacity: While seat width is a guide, each specific model has an overall maximum weight capacity. Our staff will confirm this for your chosen chair.

We always recommend speaking with our staff so we can help you choose the most appropriate and comfortable chair for your specific needs.

As part of the booking process, we will verify the approximate height and weight of the wheelchair or mobility equipment user, to ensure that we provide the most appropriately sized equipment.
