Highly transportable x lightweight

Standard wheelchairs are our most popular mobility rental device. Their main feature is their two large rear wheels, which allows the wheelchair user to self propel, by turning the hand rims attached to the wheels. At the same time, it can also be pushed by a caregiver, if assistance is required. Like our other wheelchair models, the standard manual wheelchair folds for easy transit in a car trunk, or even on the back seat of a vehicle. For maximum convenience, our manual wheelchairs are available in the following seat widths:

  • 16 inches
  • 18 inches
  • 20 inches
  • 22 inches

Accessories included, with extras available

Our manual wheelchairs come equipped with footrests as a standard option. Ask your friendly Mobility Rentals Representative about other accessories available on demand, such as cushions, etc.

Outside of Toronto, we can deliver transport chair rentals to Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Newmarket Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa. When should you use a manual wheelchair?

Use a manual chair when:

  • The wheelchair user has the upper body strength to self-propel
  • A lightweight but comfortable wheelchair is required
  • You want to have the option to self-propel OR be assisted
  • The wheelchair user is less than 300 pounds

Consider another wheelchair when:

  • The user will not be able to self-propel
  • The wheelchair user requires a caregiver or attendant
  • The wheelchair will be pushed by someone else
  • The wheelchair user has limited ability to shift their own weight

Before you rent a manual wheelchair

Wheelchair user measurements

It helps to know the width of the wheelchair users widest point. This is usually around the hip area. The reason you may want to know this is because the size of the wheelchair seat we may recommend will depend on the size of the wheelchair user. For the most part we have chairs available to fit a range of sizes.

User weight

Each wheelchair is designed to accommodate a specific amount of weight. While we do not need to know the wheelchair users exact weight, it will be helpful to you to know that most manual chairs have a weight limit of no more than 275 – 300 pounds. When a wheelchair user requires more support than the basic transport chair would provide, we would recommend looking at the bariatric transport chair. Bariatric or heavy duty manual chairs are designed to hold quite a bit more weight, and as a result can be used by a wider range of wheelchair users.
